SUDAM
In the 1960s, when the Superintendence for the Development of the Amazon (SUDAM) was created, the understanding of development was very different from what is currently envisioned. Among the differences, the pursuit of social and environmental sustainability, as well as strategies for resilience in the face of climate change, should now be at the center of any development policy for the Amazon.
Based on these premises, we propose a redefinition of the SUDAM headquarters by transforming the old 1970s building into a space for environmental sustainability. This would involve water reuse, mitigation of Belém's rising temperatures, and promotion of practices and businesses that truly bring sustainable development to the region.
