We On The Screen (Nós na Tela)
Between 2018 and 2020 we developed the We on the Screen Project, part of DATA FIRME, a larger project aiming to create crown-sourcing data about urban peripheries in an Amazonian Neighbourhood. There, interviews were conducted with residents who were pivotal figures in the occupation of the neighbourhood in the 1970s and 1980s and were at the forefront of the struggle for housing rights in the Amazon. From these interviews, we created a series of mini-documentaries that were featured on the Tela Firme webpage, the primary civic media group in the neighbourhood. These documentaries explore the positive aspects of living in an informal community, such as sports and leisure, culture, and above all, the history of the neighbourhood.
In total, we have more than 20 hours of interviews with 6 influential personalities involved in the neighborhood's occupation. These videos serve to provide young people with knowledge about their own life history. In addition to the audiovisual results, this project led to my second master's degree, this time in urban planning. It resulted in a publication in the V!rus Journal of the University of São Paulo, a chapter in a book organized by Professors Tracey Lauriault of Carleton University and Mirko Shaefer of Utrecht University (which has not yet been published), and it also received the Innovation in Public Policy Award from ITSR, the Institute for Third Sector Research.
